Monsters at Work^[1] is an animated television series based on Monsters, Inc..

It was first confirmed in a Disney press release on November 9, 2017 as a Disney+ exclusive and is a sequel of the film.^[4] It was scheduled to premiere on July 2, 2020; however, it delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. On June 11, 2021, it was announced the series would premiere five days later on Wednesday, July 7, 2021.^[5]

Description

Series description as of April 2019:

Six months after the events of the original movie, the power plant at its center now harvesting the laughter of children to fuel the city of Monstropolis. Tylor Tuskmon, an eager and talented mechanic on the Monsters, Inc. Facilities Team who dreams of working on the Laugh Floor alongside Mike and Sulley.^[1]

Current series description:

Monsters At Work takes place the day after the Monsters, Incorporated power plant started harvesting the laughter of children to fuel the city of Monstropolis, thanks to Mike and Sulley's discovery that laughter generates ten times more energy than screams. It follows the story of Tylor Tuskmon, an eager young monster who graduated top of his class at Monsters University and always dreamed of becoming a Scarer until he lands a job at Monsters, Incorporated, and discovers that scaring is out and laughter is in. After Tylor is temporarily reassigned to the Monsters, Inc. Facilities Team (MIFT), he must work alongside a misfit bunch of mechanics while setting his sights on becoming a Jokester.

Plot

Season 1 of the TV series mainly revolves around Tylor and his activities at MIFT. Some focus is shown on Mike and Sulley's activities as company managers of Monsters, Inc. During Episode 10, Tylor drops his MIFTer credentials as he becomes a full blown Jokester working on a Laugh Floor.

In season 2, the series revolves around his activities as jokester at Monsters, Inc. while hints are shown he may defect to a competing company that still uses Scream Energy. At least nine months have passed since Waternoose was arrested by the time the first episode of the season starts.

It is the twentieth animated television series to be based on a Disney animated feature, after The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, TaleSpin, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Timon & Pumbaa, Jungle Cubs, 101 Dalmatians: The Series, Hercules, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, The Legend of Tarzan, Lilo & Stitch: The Series, The Emperor's New School, Jake and the Never Land Pirates, The 7D, The Lion Guard, Tangled: The Series, Big Hero 6: The Series, and Legend of the Three Caballeros.

This is the first Pixar TV series where the original voice cast members reprise their roles.
It is confirmed that Boo will not appear in the series. However, she's mentioned in The Damaged Room and It's Laughter They're After, she could appear in Season 2.
This show was to originally set for 2020, but it got delayed to July 7, 2021 because of COVID-19.
Kelly Marie Tran was going to voice Val, but was replaced by Mindy Kaling.
