The Human World is a place where the humans and regular animals live, separate from the Monster World where the monsters live. From what is shown of it, it appears to be the equivalent of real life Earth. Monsters working at Monsters, Inc. access the human world through various doors to travel in time to the human's age to collect screams (later laughter) from children to supply Monstropolis with power.
Normally, only humans and regular animals live in the Human World, with monsters only visiting the Human World for minimal amounts of time. Monsters may be intentionally banished to the Human World as punishment. Improper imprisonment has occurred with the Yeti when he discovered the plans for the Scream Extractor, as well as with Mike and Sulley when they attempted to rat out Randall Boggs and Mr. Waternoose for their plans to kidnap and torture children.
Monsters will often try their best to cover their existences from human, especially adult human, due to potential conflict might occur between both worlds and parents are not pleased with the fact that monsters freely trespass their houses to collect scream or laugh from their kids. Monsters themselves are no less vulnerable than human since a dog can maul a monster to death, which highlight how deadly the human are to monsters.
